Lady Gaga may have stunned onlookers with her washing up gloves when she appeared on the Oscars red carpet, but it turned out she had an even bigger trick up her sleeves(?) - reminding any doubters that, behind all the pop production that's made her a disco star, is a very fine pair of lungs.
Gaga, with her meat frocks and dog collars, may have seemed an unlikely choice for the tribute to 'The Sound of Music' - celebrating its 50th anniversary - but she knocked it out of the theatre, with a medley including 'The Hills Are Alive', 'My Favourite Things', 'Edelweiss' and 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain', as originally performed byJulie Andrews in the 1965 film.
And if all that wasn't surprising enough, Dame Julie appeared on stage to embrace Lady G and thank her. She said, "It really warmed my heart, it really did."
